This Privacy Policy does not apply to the websites or products of our business partners, affiliates or any other third parties, even if they are linked from the Platform. We recommend that you read the privacy statements of any third parties you interact with.

By accessing or using the Platform, you (“you”, “your” or “user”) consent to our collection, storage, use and disclosure of Information (defined below) in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you are located in the European Union (“EU”) or European Economic Area (“EEA”), you will be asked for clear and affirmative consent to the collection, processing and sharing of your Personal Information, which you may withdraw at any time. We will not share your Personal Information with any third party without your consent, except as described in this Privacy Policy or as permitted by law.

This Privacy Policy is intended to comply with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and, for users in the EU and EEA, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the “General Data Protection Regulation” or “GDPR”).

In short: our apps show no ads and do not track you. We collect only what we need to run our services, we never sell your personal information, and you can delete your account at any time.

1. Information we collect

We aim to give you a safe, efficient and personalised experience. To do so, we collect the personal, non-personal and other information described below (together, “Information”).

1.1 Personal Information

Personal Information is information that can identify you, either on its own or with other information. It includes:

  1. Account information: your name, email address or phone number, country, the sign-in method you choose (such as Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft or phone) and, if you add one, a profile picture, when you create an account in our apps;
  2. Learning and settings data: your progress, scores, streaks, preferences and app settings, so that the app works as expected across sessions and devices;
  3. Website forms: the information you enter when you contact us, ask for a new language in Varta Typing Tutor, or request account deletion (see section 1.7);
  4. Surveys: information such as name, age, contact details and preferences, if you choose to take part in a survey; and
  5. Communications: the content of messages you send us and any information you choose to include.

This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. We may ask for further information where it is needed to provide a service to you.

Personal Information that is freely available in the public domain is not treated as sensitive. Any comments or messages you post in public areas of the Platform become published content. We are not responsible for the accuracy of content posted by users, and we may remove any content we consider offensive, discriminatory, defamatory or otherwise inappropriate.

1.2 Non-Personal Information

When you visit the Platform, we may collect non-personal information such as your approximate location, operating system, browser type, internet service provider, the date and time of your visit, the pages you visit and the links you click. This information does not identify you personally. We may also collect information about which features you use and how you use them, so that we can improve them.

1.3 Automatic information

Our servers automatically record technical information when you use the Platform, such as your web request, browser type and language, and the date and time of the request. We use this to keep the Platform secure and working properly. Cookies are described in section 8.

1.4 Mobile devices and app permissions

When you use our apps, we may receive information about your device, such as its model, operating system version and an app-specific identifier, to provide and support the service.

Our apps ask only for the permissions a feature needs, for example:

  • Microphone: only for voice typing, and only while you are using it;
  • Photos or gallery: only if you choose to add a profile picture.

You can turn these permissions off at any time in your device settings. Our keyboards do not collect or store what you type.

1.5 Voice typing and third-party services

Varta Keyboard and Tamil Izhai offer voice typing, which converts speech into text using third-party speech recognition services. When you use this feature, your audio is sent securely to these services for transcription, and the text is returned to your device. We do not store your audio or the transcribed text. The third-party providers may process your audio in line with their own privacy policies. By using voice typing, you acknowledge and agree to this processing.

1.6 User communications

When you email or otherwise contact us, we may keep those communications so that we can answer your questions, respond to your requests and improve our services.

You can control and delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the Platform work.

Website analytics

With your consent, our websites use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use them, such as which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from. This helps us improve the websites.
